About the project

Worldwide members of minorities (religious, ethnic or other) day-to-day become victims of discrimination or social excluision. We want to sensitize young people from Turkey and Germany on this topic, especially regarding religious minorities. We want to widen their horizons and knowledge. In a first step they reflect about their own doings and habits regarding social exclusion. They will reflect, whether they are sometimes victims of social exclusions but also, if they sometimes promote social exclusion of individuals. After this important self-assessment and the discussion with other members about this topic during the exchanges, the aim is to improve own habits on a personal level but also to learn, how to intervene or mediate in situations. During the exchanges every participant is developing a personal action plan, which will be evaluated at the next exchange. During the second exchange the level will be risen to the level from the personal level to the social level. The students develop a guideline for actions how to handle and how to prevent situations of social exclusion. They also develop strategies how to spread their knowledge - especially the Guideline. During the second exchange, the level of Impact will be risen from a personal to a social leve. As in the first exchange, the participants will also meet members of religious and other minorities and members of NGO's working in the social sector. They will be shown, how to lobby with decision makers or on larger audiences. Combining Gemany and Turkey in this project is very special. In both countries the role of religion in society differs very much. Nevertheless in both countries there is a main religion and other religions also exist. And often they face discrimination in a number of ways. Simultaneously international relations and bilateral agreements between Turkey and Germany regarding arriving refugees are influencing the awareness of the population in both countries and can foster fears and attitudes of nationalism and discrimination. The goal of the project ist therefore the reflexion about personal habits and social attitudes regarding minorities, the analysis of processes of discrimination and social exklusion and starting from this the development of approaches for a peaceful togetherness, with acceptance for people of different cultures and origins. Intercultural and international cooperation requires reflection, acceptance and understanding of foreign cultures but also an understanding of the own cultural identity. The project is organized by the association for exchange, education and communication (aubiko e.V) SORGUN GENÇLİK DERNEĞİ, a youth organization from Sorgun, Turkey. It is funded by means of the EU Erasmus+ programme, means of the German-Turkish youth bridge. It is also supported by the Kultur- und Stadtteilschule Alt-Rahlstedt in Hamburg, where parts of the workshop take place and by ŞEHİT AHMET ALAN ANADOLU LİSESİ in Sorgun.
